We fully welcome and enjoy having children in our worship service. We have a special place for children in our worship service that we call the pray-ground. There are toys, a small table and chairs, and crayons. Don’t worry; it is right by the chairs so that parents/grandparents/guardians can sit right by their children. This space allows children to engage in worship and wiggle at the same time. We also have activity pages for children old enough to use a pencil or crayon and you are welcome to bring toys from home.
Doesn’t having children mean it’s a little chaotic in worship? Sometimes yes. Anytime an entire family gets together across the generations it is a little messy, but it is also beautiful. We believe that children learn from a very young age the practices of worship and being a part of the community of faith and we believe that we learn from the children as well. Worship is not a place that we come to that is pristine and perfect and quiet. It more like a family reunion. We all come as we are, young and old. And as the scripture constantly reminds us, every one of us has an important part in the community.
So we feel it is important to fully welcome all ages because of how we are all formed because of it. Also we recognize that there are lots of young kids who have a hard time leaving their parents and going to a nursery. We realize as a new comer to a congregation it can be scary to leave your child with people you just met, and some parents after being away from their kids during the week don’t want to be away from them again on Sunday morning.
We also know that some kids really enjoy and some parents really appreciate a nursery. We recently renovated our nursery, and have the ability to stream worship into the nursery.
At Evergreen we have a deep commitment to making sure that our church is a safe place for children. Click here to view our Safe Sanctuaries Policy.
