Since some United Methodist churches are choosing to disaffiliate with the UMC, the Leadership Team at Evergreen thought it important to make an official statement of our desire to remain as part of the United Methodist Church and our commitment to inclusion.
“Evergreen United Methodist Church officially affirms our continued affiliation with The United Methodist Church. This affirms our continued commitment to local, district, conference, and global ministries, missions, and practices of the connectional church. We value this connectional ministry for how we are able to join together for joint missions and also for how Evergreen has been supported by the conference through training, discernment and finances.
Our mission states that “Evergreen United Methodist Church is a diverse Christian community where we seek to love God and love one another.” We believe that remaining United Methodist is how we can best live out this mission of diversity and love. While those who are disaffiliating are doing so because they believe in limiting the inclusion of LGBQT persons, we affirm our commitment to the full inclusion of LGBQT persons in worship, fellowship, service, and leadership as disciples seeking to share God’s love with all within and beyond Evergreen.”
