Meet the Evergreen United Methodist Church Staff

Pastor HannahHannah McManus, Pastor

“Hello!  Welcome to Evergreen United Methodist Church!” Those are my favorite words to say whether it’s on Sunday morning, answering the phone, or greeting one of our families for the food pantry. I truly love the work that I do as a pastor.  Working side by side with the people of Evergreen and the larger community adds to my joy.

When I was 17 years old I knew I was called to the ministry but had been raised in a church that did not ordain women. Trying to answer that call by serving others, I became a social worker. I even served as campus chaplain at the University of South Carolina, but always something was missing. Later, I got married and had three children and lived in various places in this country. Thirteen years ago we settled in Chapel Hill. During those years, my
participation in church was intermittent at best. But my faith has taught me that God is relentless in his loving pursuit of each one of us! One day, knowing my children needed to know who God was, we walked into a Methodist Church just “to see” what it was all about. Something happened the moment we walked through those doors, something in my heart was set free and at last I knew I was home. That was 9 years ago.

Now I serve here at Evergreen as the pastor along with our interns and a whole host of volunteer leaders and staff. We work hard to faithfully create a meaningful worship service on Sunday and to be authentically present to all in our community.

Come and join us for worship. Serve in our food pantry. Join us for Bible Study or small
group discussions. Ask the hard questions. Pray with us as we seek answers. Join
us as we seek to know more of who this wonderful God is that we worship. May the
Holy Spirit set your heart free.
